ABOUT THE AUTHOR

My name is Benjamin Melki, I’m an entrepreneur and the founder of Future Is Great.

I have a fault, which is ‘trouble appreciating the present when a painful obligation is planned’. It’s an old trend for me. For example, when I was a kid at school with an important mathematical assignment for the next day waiting for me at home, I could not bring myself to play and enjoy the moments of relaxation without having gotten rid of this school duty first. Oh, I was doing the bare minimum to return to my hobbies as soon as possible, but at least I could go and enjoy myself with a clear mind.

It is this extreme tendency to want to get rid of clutter that has spurred me to create the movement Future Is Great: how to fully appreciate life today if we know that the joy of living, these People we love will be ripped off by an inescapable death? The more we appreciate life, the more the incarnation of the ephemeral seems absurd. A vast subject, I am certainly not the first to question. But gladly, our time offers new perspectives.

The idea of disappearance certainly does not prevent me from living and enjoying the pleasures of life, but still, would it not be so much better not to be subject to biological degradation, infinitely better to have the choice to live as long as desired, in perfect health, surrounded by those who are dear to us?

To live as long as desired, in perfect health, surrounded by those who are dear to us

This is an ambition! An objective so wonderful that it would be worth it to do anything and everything to reach it. After all, what’s more important than our loves, our families, and our friends? To achieve this, we still need to overcome the major barriers that are the four arch foes, mainly: aging, disease, environmental problems and poverty. I discovered a new world from the works of futuristic authors. A real world, where people dream and work to free us from the four problems mentioned above by radical technological advances.

And I have built a conviction: I think the chances are high, so that in a more or less near future, humanity will succeed in technologically abolishing the causes of the four arch foes. It’s a belief that I put on the table with Future Is Great!

Though I do not want to, and I cannot promise anything, it seems unrealistic to me that in 50, 100, 200 years or more, we have not been able to get rid of cancer, aging, fossil fuels and all that crap. Let’s rejoice today, our future is great! Let’s have the “nostalgia of tomorrow”.

Change people’s perception of the future, Change the cultural paradigm

Majority have a pessimistic view of an obscure future, where they feel technologies will create more problems than they will solve. This may be your case as you read these lines. It is this cultural perception that I want to change through Future Is Great. I want to offer people an alternative vision, a radically optimistic and resolving one. To let them see, the possibility of a future where we will have solved most of our problems and where we will have the choice to live as long as desired, in perfect health, surrounded by those we love, which is the main objective.

What I have discovered in the optimistic vision of the future and in the direction we must actively seek to reach is a true meaning to life. This position involves absolutely new intellectual paths, refreshing and exciting to the point of deserving wider dissemination.

ABOUT FUTURE IS GREAT

Future is Great is an intellectual and optimistic movement that aims to educate, integrate and inspire sympathizers around the world who consider it possible and desirable to preserve human life.

Not being a scientist, I still had the ambition to accelerate the advent of technological solutions that can solve such atrocious problems as aging or environmental problems. The scientific and technological dimension is not the only one. We must now weigh on the cultural dimension, and in doing so, promote the virtuous circle between cultural influence and positive technological development. How do I achieve this?

By art! Because art penetrates human emotions like no other. Art inspires, art motivates, art makes think and art educates. In the program of Future Is Great:

  • Reflections on the future and the technological eradication of the four arch foes:
We will share our thoughts on the future as we wish and imagine it. We will comment on news related to our theme.
  • Integration of individuals sharing our aspirations:
We have set up a discussion group, we will solicit the opinion and reflections of our visitors.
  • Tips on current ways to maximize long life:
We will share tips on how to optimize your health: dietary supplements, lifestyle and new scientific discoveries.
  • Production of short movies illustrating what Future Is Great could be:
In order to inspire people with our optimistic vision, we want to make short films illustrating the future we want, free from aging, disease, poverty and environmental problems. A crowdfunding is planned.
  • Fictions about our future:
We want to write short stories, staging a sequence of life in the future as we envision it.
  • Artistic illustrations of the future:
This is particularly close to my heart; we will call on artists to illustrate our vision of the future.
  • Brand:
We have created a brand for our supporters. This brand will be an excellent vector for spreading the values and goals of Future Is Great.
  • Eventually, when there is enough of us: fundraisers to fund research on scientific and technological development to eradicate the four arch foes.
    I dare you!

The tone used on this blog is that of an essay. I will try to be as specific as possible, but I want to keep the ‘expression flexibility’ of the essay; this blog is not a scientific publication.

I reserve the right for my opinions to evolve, the right to make mistakes, and even to contradict myself!
